Snow-tastic Weekend

The biggest blizzard to hit the Washington DC area came this weekend. It started snowing last friday at 10am and didn't stop until Saturday night. The whole city shut down. I went to costco on Thursday morning before the storm and it was busier that it is at christmas time later that evening after I dropped Barrett off for Basketball practice, I went over to Safeway to pick up a few things and the shelves were bare with huge long lines. I thought this was crazy, being from Idaho I wasn't to worried. We made it fine through the first two days and we were glad not to loose power. It was a lot of fun playing in the snow, it was just over my knee. We let Eva off her leash knowing she couldn't go far very fast given the depth of the snow. We tried to sled down Valley View, the street by our house, but the snow was way to deep. I tied Eva up to one of our plastic sleds and she pulled Sara around for little bit. Sara and I got a few good runs off Jean Louise. The boys got together with the neighbors and built snow forts and had some violent snowball fights. The snow was so deep that Peter just picked up the kids and threw them up into the air to land in the snow, kinda like what you do in the swimming pool, but without any fluid movement. It was funny to see how they landed in the snow all twisted up and not able to get up. Barrett did end up with a sore neck the next day.
We still got lots of exercise shoveling pound and pounds of heavy wet snow off the driveway. At one point I saw Peter just laying in the snow on the side of the driveway. We were still snowed in on Sunday and church was cancelled. The Stake Presidency gave permission to priesthood holders to administer the sacrement to their families in the home since church was cancelled last week for snow and next week is Stake Conference. We sat around the dining room table and Peter blessed the bread and water. Sara was upset that she could not pass out the bread. Kate played some hymns on the piano and Quinn gave a talk. It was really nice and brought the spirit into our home.
Later that night we cooked up some chicken wings and enjoyed watching the Super Bowl together. We were all happy that the Saints won, but not happy that Reggie Bush didn't play much.

All in all, I measured about 21"-23" inches at our house. It is day 4 and we spent the morning cleaning up the house, vaccuuming, changed sheets, cleaned bathrooms etc. and then got to shoveling off the back deck. Our roads finally got cleared by the city so we piled in the truck and went out to lunch. It was nice to get "out".

The forcast is calling for 8-10" more inches of snow for tomorrow and Wednesday. School is closed until Thursday. I have to say that it has been kinda nice being together just relaxing and not being bothered or distracted by the outside world. It might be the closest thing to HIBERNATION I've experienced. I am a little embarressed to admitt that it has been really great sporting PJ's, frizzy hair hairdos, no makeup for 4 days. I might find some time to hibernate every winter.
