So the Washington Monument is what you usually see first when flying in to D.C and is located in the center of the National Mall. It is 555 ft and towers over everything in the Nation's Capital and reminds us of the immensity of George Washington's contribution to this republic.

This is the first time we have been up the 70 second elevator to the top of the monument and it was really cool to see the views and see some of the 195 memorial stones imbeded into the inside walls.

This is the North view looking out over the White House, Constitution Avenue and the Ellipse (open field where they put the National Christmas Tree every year)

Looking East is the National Capital Building and behind it is the U.S. Supreme Court and Library of Congress and behind that is the Nationals Baseball field.

This is a shot to the South looking over the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial and beyond that is the 14th street bridge that becomes Virginia as you cross over the Potomac river. It is a 10 minute drive from our house to Downtown D.C, with traffic it can be 1 hour or more (yuck!)

This is looking West over the World War II memorial, Reflecting Pool, and one of my favorites the Lincoln Memorial. Behind it is the Memorial bridge that takes you to Arlington National Cemetary in Virginia. In the trees to the right is the Vietnam Veterans memorial which is a really neat experience. I have to say that this birds eye view gave me some perspective to my driving in D.C dislexia. I am a visual person and this was really facinating to me. Not to easy to get tickets to go up inside, but really worth it.
