Pentagon Memorial

The Pentagon Memorial is a memorial commenorating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon and the 184 innocent lives lost in the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77. Thousands of others lost their lives and suffered injury that day while millions wept. That day was simply incomprehensible. This is the side of the building where the plane penetrated through the Pentagon. On the upper right of the photo you can see where the building was repaired by the different color of morter. Each bench is dedicated to a person who died, if it faces the sky the life was lost on the airplane and if it faces the building the life was lost in the Pentagon. Each memorial unit is a cantilevered bench with a glowing light pool underneath and a permanent inscription of each victim's name. They are organized from age with the youngest being only 3 years old to the oldest at 71.
It is a place of silent remembrance of those who lost their lives and a country that was attacked.
Many people in this area knew and worked with those who lost their lives that day. Peter had a colleage who was killed in the Pentagon. We took a tour of the Pentagon a few years ago and it still brings alot of emotion to the surface to those who work and live here.
