Manic Monday

I generally like to blog about all the positive and wonderful things in life, but after a day like yesterday I felt like I needed to record my thoughts and the difficulty of dads surgery. Here are the texts that Kay and mom sent from the hospital to keep the family updated.

Aug. 3rd
12:00 pm Dad goes in for surgery to have tumor removed from pancreas and large intestines

3:39 pm Dad doing good-still haven’t reached the pancreas yet-mom is napping Dr. will update in 2 hrs.

5:35 pm Took some slices off the pancreas. Dr. update in 2 more hrs

8:00 pm Dad expected to be done in an hour or so. Will call after we talk to the Dr.

9:41 pm Got a phone call from mom saying the surgery is over. Dad hasn’t woke up yet, but everything went well.

Being on eastern time I was 2 hours ahead and so I was very worn out by trying to keep myself busy the entire day to keep my mind from worrying about the worst case senerio. After my last blog I made dinner and then took Quinn to footaball practice. Sara, Barrett , Eva and I went on a long hike through the woods by the field. It was nice and quiet. Sara fell a couple of times so I carried her on my back. She was crying loudly and I was crying softly. I was glad no one was around. We were a mess and plus the humidity was at an all time high with all the rain we have been getting, so our hair was wet and frizzy and we were all sweating so much.
We said a special prayer for Grandpa (dad) and put the kids to bed. At this point I the only thing I could think about was poor dad laying on a surgical table for sooooooo long with all his guts hanging out and about. It was just too much and I finally broke down in tears and called Kay. She helped me feel much better and Katie stayed up with me and kept me distracted with new episodes of Jon & kate plus 8. Still waiting, so Peter and I went to bed at 11:30pm EST. I laid the phone on my chest so I wouldn’t miss the call. Only 11 minutes later the phone startled me and it was mom calling with the good news.

Aug. 4th
7:04am Dad doing good-breathing tube still in hopefully out this morning-Dr. says he looks good-he is writing messages and is in no pain
So in the end after 9 ½ hours of a complicated and high risk surgery this blog has become very wonderful news and a Miracle from God. A huge sigh of relief, Get well soon dad
